Your first visit

At your first visit, a thorough medical history and condition-specific background will be taken and discussed. A top to toe postural assessment will be done, highlighting areas of imbalance and dysfunction within the musculoskeletal system.

Range of movement will be assessed and a treatment plan will be discussed and agreed between client and practitioner. Orthopaedic Massage treatment will then continue, and self-care stretches/recommendations will be talked about at the end of the session.

If the practitioner feels that your condition would best be treated through an alternative modality, or that you require assessment from your General Practitioner at any time, this will be discussed with you before treatment continues.

Postural analysis

Assessment of body posture and range of movement from head to toe will reveal areas of the musculoskeletal system that are restricted or imbalanced, due to either soft tissue injury or joint dysfunction.

Orthopaedic Massage treatment

The treatment incorporates conventional massage techniques with myofascial release work to address the more superficial soft tissue structures. Neuromuscular techniques are used to stimulate, inhibit, strengthen or restore functional position and length to muscle tissue. Neuromuscular re-education is used to restore functional balance to muscle groups which are imbalanced because of injury, disease, overuse or repetitive strain. Gentle joint mobilisations and decompressions are used to stimulate articular surfaces and improve joint movement.

Sports Injuries

Orthopaedic Massage treatments can be effective on sports injuries, and can identify areas of vulnerability within the musculoskeletal system before they turn in to injuries. Through developing a programme which combines postural analysis, treatment and stretching/rehab advice, Reflex Orthopaedic Massage can help you achieve peak performance, show you how to avoid injury, and return to fitness faster following injury.

Stretching

Whatever your sport, stretching should be an integral part of your training regime. Stretching is not only a way to unload tension/tightness which has accumulated within the soft tissues, it also allows you to identify muscle groups which are becoming imbalanced or overloaded, and gives you the opportunity to address the imbalance before it manifests itself in the form of a strain or injury. Reflex Orthopaedic Massage will show you how to stretch the correct way, and how to use your stretching routine to empower you to get the best out of your body.
